Bookworm Update

2019 Reading Challenge: 8 books out of 52.

Surprise, surprise. Another post on the progress of my 2019 reading progress so soon after the last one!

I've been spending a lot more time reading. I've had some time off over the last few days and instead of doing what I normally do... basically watching YouTube documentaries and writing in my journal or working on my food journal (more on that in another post that'll come soon), I've been doing more reading. I miss the old Rachel, who used to always read, and whenever she had the chance she'd be reading. Nowadays, I often put the reading to one side in favour of other things, like journaling or house work, however this last Sunday I had the day off and spent almost the entire day sitting at my desk, with my Kindle, reading. It felt good, though it was driven by the desire to finish my book and get started on the next one. I'm hungry to go adventuring in a good book again. Its been a long time since I've been able to get into a good book and really enjoy it without feeling like I need to finish the book as soon as I can.

I've been reading my books on the bus, as always, but it was in both directions yesterday, which is weird because I often struggle reading on the return journey from work, because motion sickness makes me feel a bit sick. Its because of the darkness that wraps itself around the bus, which travels with its interior lights on. So it feels like the bus it moving but when I look down at my book, I often can't see the bus's motion out the corner of my eye. This makes me feel really queasy. Last night, I just made sure that I look up and out the windows when the bus is going round corners and, especially, roundabouts.

Current Read

I'm reading one of Kate Morton's books called The Lake House. I haven't read this book before but I have read one of Kate Morton's other books, The House at Riverton. The House at Riverton is a gripping read about the suicide of a poet in the presence of only two witnesses, two sisters, one said to be his lover and the other his fiancée. I'm not going to spoil the story for you if you haven't read it, but its a book I couldn't put down, even if I had read it before (when I was in boarding school). That's part of the reason why I'm reading The Lake House. I know from experience that you shouldn't read a book based on how well other books by the same author have been written. I've come across authors who have written books that have all been horrible to read, and then come across a fluke, that one well written book. It goes the other way as well. When an author has that one story that is painful to read. So far, The Lake House is an incredibly good read and I'm enjoying the suspense of it all. Based on where I am in The Lake House, I'd definitely recommend it to you, just as I'd recommend reading The House at Riverton.

Continued Progress with My 2019 Reading Challenge

I'm currently on track with my GoodReads Reading Challenge. I'm over half way through my 9th book, and thought I'd share why I chose the number 52 as the number of books I want to read for the challenge. There are 52 weeks in each year and by choosing to read 52 books in a year, it means I need to read at least one book a week. I know that some books are longer and harder, so will take me more than a week to read through. So I'm planning to balance these longer books with shorter ones that will help get me back on track. I'm the type of person who needs to have a challenge in order to strive towards completing this challenge.

The difference between this year and last year's challenges is that as far as I'm aware I don't have any reason to stop reading. In the run up to my wedding I stopped reading all together for several months for long periods because I was so stressed out with all the preparations and job the changes I was going through. Not to add, I struggled reading when during the first six months of 2018 because of my work at the pub. I was too tired. Now I honestly don't give myself a choice about reading a few pages, at least once a day.
