2020 Reading Challenge: 35 books out of 60 (58%)

The best companion to a good book is a cup of tea

I just realised that I haven't written anything about my book reading lately. My journey towards hitting my 2020 reading challenge looks set to be completed with flying colours. I'm about 9 books ahead of the reading schedule for this year. Some of the books that I've been reading have been extremely difficult to put down. A few years ago, I read a book called Heretic Queen. It's a book about the niece of Nefertiti. the famous queen of Egypt (and wife of Akhenaten). The Heretic Queen is about one of the wives of Ramesses the Great, the son of Pharaoh Seti I and Queen Tuya. This story looks at the early years of Ramesses' reign. He was made co-ruler of Egypt by his father Seti, however, the story follows the process that Ramesses' chief wife had to take in order to take that title. For Nefertari, becoming Cheif Wife, and queen of Egypt, is a play for survival. To overcome her personal family history, as she's closely related to the Heretic King, Akenaten, who led Egypt away from the old gods in search of Aten, the sun disk. Even though his queen, Nefertiti, the sister of Nefertari's mother, played a part in bringing Egypt back to Amun and the old gods, she too is considered a heretic. It is Nefertiti who Nefertari is named after and through this story, you follow her struggle to shrug off her family history. Nefertari must prove to Ramesses, the court and the country that she is a worthy wife of the Pharaoh and the best suited for the role of Cheif Wife and queen instead of Ramesses' first wife, Iset. I couldn't put the book down... and when I read the other books by Michelle Moran, I realised that she's a very good author as all her books are very hard to put down. I'll definitely be going back to reading them again in the future.
