Journal Entry At A Time

No one encouraged me to keep a diary/journal. I was 11 and someone gave me a fancy book with the word 'DIARY' written on its cover. I then began to write a page almost daily about my life, and the big things that were happening to me. In the beginning it was all about the world around me, and little to do with the thoughts and emotions I had. Over the years how my entries are written has changed. The focus is no longer about what happens during my day (though I sometimes write about what happens), but about my emotions and how the events of the day have impacted me.
I've been through quite a few really difficult seasons in my time. Seasons where I've been alone and needed to write out my frustration and loneliness. Seasons where I was deeply misunderstood or just sidelined. I would sit and write down all the pain and the confusion I was feeling. I wrote to ease the aching inside and writing it down would help me make sense of it all. Writing helped me process and pray through the situations I was facing. It helped me forgive those who needed forgiving, even though they never apologised.
Over the years, I've used a few different notebooks, and I've always gone back to using a Moleskine A5 lined notebook. The Moleskine is on the more expensive side, however, the overall product quality is worth the money I spend on it and are easy to find. Most bookshops and good quality stationary shops will sell them. When I was in Paris, I discovered, in a train station and shopping centre, a shop that sold just Moleskine products. I was thrilled. Hannah (my sister) has bought my Christmas/birthday presents there before now.
I'm planning to stay with Moleskine for the foreseeable future that I've returned to writing in the one pictured in this blog. I sneakily have another two Moleskine notebooks lined up for use after I've finished this one. One is a Beauty & the Beast Special Limited Edition and the other is a checkered red and black one (the Beauty & the Beast Moleskine was a gift from Hannah last year and I think I accidentally put it into a suitcase that has ended up in the attic. I'm planning to use that one next as I should have access to the suitcases soon).
More on my journaling process in the near future.
