Working Life: An Update

Be someone who makes everybody feel like a somebody.

February 2021. I can't believe that January has already gone and soon February will be done too. The last six weeks or so I've been really busy with work. It's been keeping me really busy, even though I have had my hours reduced slightly, having gone from doing three 12-hour shifts and two 7-hour shifts a week, to five 7-hour shifts. It gives me my afternoons to rest and do some other things. I do love my job and I do enjoy going to work every day I'm scheduled to work. I've been able to form some strong relationships with several of the residents and some of the other staff. There are several inside jokes that have been making the rounds within the staffing team and amongst the residents, which I won't try to explain to you (as they won't make a whole lot of sense to you). The laughter does make the shifts go past quicker and easier than it would have been.

Many of you know that here in the UK, we've been in lockdown since just before last Christmas. There's going to be a new announcement from 10 Downing Street (where the British Prime Minister lives) on Monday about what's going to happen in regards to easing the restrictions. I'm hopeful that the government will ease the restrictions very slowly, much slower than the previous two lockdowns, because the slower the restrictions get lifted will mean that the COVID-19 infection rates won't spike as fast as they did before. A lot of people are still on furlough from their jobs or are working at home. In a way, I'm super grateful that I'm classified as a key worker as it means that I can actually leave home every day to get to work, which is a huge blessing for my mental health.

Well, until next time.
