One Week In

Many of you have probably wondered at how I've been fairing in my new job... and how I'm finding it, given I've been working for about a week now (give or take one day).
The hours are definitely better than at my old job, When I had applied for the job, I stated that I couldn't work Saturday mornings (because of Slimming World) or Sundays (church and as a fixed day off), and that I couldn't start before 8 am or after 6:30 - 7 pm (this was because I wanted to ensure I could easily get into work and back home when the buses are running on a regular basis). So my shifts have all been around 6 or 7 hours long, with a 45 minute break. My uniform (pictured here) is provided by the company, along with the shoes.
So far, I've been shown how to do the drinks, and I've often been doing the soft drinks and the hot drinks. I can do the milkshakes, the ice creams and the frappes (as well as the other fancy drinks) but generally when its quieter. The reason for this is that the frappes, ice creams and milkshakes have been very popular due to the hot weather and thus I'm still not fast enough at making them or at remembering all the different ways they're all made (its a lot harder than I thought).
Then this morning I was shown the ropes on how to put the orders together. It was a whole new challenge as the kitchen will make the basic part of the order, be it burger, nuggets or chicken select, and they'll send it down the shoot. I had to pick the items that were on an order, and then get the right amount of chips (and the right sizes) before heading over to get the right drinks. From there I would either call out the order number and hand it to the customer or run it to the table. The McDonald's I work for has table service, which means that we'll run the food to the table if the customer has opted for that. There should be someone making the chips, and doing the drinks. So, if all is running smoothly, it'll take a few moments to assemble a meal.
In all honesty, I'm really enjoying working at McDonald's. Its a good company to work for and even though I'm not sure how long I'll be working for them, I'm not in a hurry to look for another job. The nice think about McDonald's is that they'll train me to work all the stations (beverages and desserts, the chip frying machines, assembling meals, and from there, the kitchen (I heard today it often takes several months before new staff will get moved into the kitchens).
So I want to thank all of you for praying that I find something. Given its not been something I was expecting to get, at least I'm able to make my way again, and having more time means I can focus on other things, like my journaling, my writing (I bought three new notebooks for this express purpose) and my photography.
