Time Can Learn To Fly

Updated: Feb 3, 2019

My beloved Filofax and Parker Pen

Life has obviously caught up with me. I'm sitting in the Crawley Library and I'm wondering where the last few weeks have gone. I know I need to sit down and write a long post to bring you all up to speed with my life. A lot has happened since my last post. My life can currently be broken down into four subcategories. Church. Work. The Wedding. Housing. So I will proceed to write a bit about each just to cover and then I'll write a longer post soon.

Church.

For me, this is a very important topic. My whole life revolves around my faith and walk with God, and a big part of having a strong relationship with God is my involvement with church and a small group (some will call this a life group). Andy and I are part of the PA team at Crawley Community Church (CCC). Every few weeks, we'll be in the booth at the back of the church hall, Andy on the sound desk and me on works for worship. We'll arrive early and help sent up the stage for the band and then get all the acoustics sorted out before the service starts. Its a lot of fun, despite the early start.

Work.

I'm very happy in my current job. McDonald's are incredible. Yes, the day can be very busy and long, but the staff are treated well, and paid well. I really enjoy working with the other crew members. The hours aren't that bad, either. On average I'm working between 8 and 9 hours a day, 5 days a week. I've got my Saturday mornings off and my Sundays. So Andy and I automatically have at least one day off together each week as he also has Sunday off. One of the aspects I love about McDonald's is that we're all trained to be all-rounders. So, once someone has been trained in both kitchen and at the front, they can be put anywhere. At the moment, I'm still being trained out front, with the exception of the fries station, but that's coming soon.

The Wedding.

We've got 65 days to go before the wedding! 65 days until a new chapter begins. 65 days until a new adventure starts! A lot of the stuff that is involved with the wedding has been sorted out, like the venue for the reception and the church service. The wedding dress, the suit and the shoes have been bought. The caterer and the mobile bar have been arranged, and the DJ has been contacted. We're getting the legal side sorted out next week at the Crawley Registry Office (my marrying a Brit isn't an issue for the Dutch government, thankfully, so no need for two weddings in both countries). The guest list is getting longer as our guests are RSVPing.

Housing.

I started house hunting (or apartment hunting) last week. Its been rather interesting as we'd like somewhere that will become our first house together as a married couple. We've also been debating whether or not we go for somewhere that is pet friendly, as we'd like to take Andy's cat, Ash (pictured here), with us. However, most lettings (places for rent), don't allow pets due to the potential damage to the property. The list of needs does go on, but I won't bore you with it (I'm also almost out of time with the computer I'm using). Andy and I had some setbacks with details and arrangements, etc, but there's more exciting news to come on this topic, so bare with me and stay posted!
